Lun Wah: a Polynesian Party!

Lun Wah: a Polynesian Party!

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Lun Wah Chinese and Polynesian Restaurant in Roselle for the first time with a few girlfriends.  We had all heard the rave reviews about the delicious food, potent drinks, and fun décor, and were eager to check it out for ourselves.

The exterior is a bit, shall we say, underwhelming.  Tucked away inside a strip mall, from the outside it closely resembles a Laundromat.  Not exactly a good sign.

But open the doors and let the Polynesian party begin!

First, we drank in the sights:

Our senses were struck by a festival of lights strung everywhere. Tiki masks adorned the walls.  A stone waterfall running to a fish pond with real fish.  At the far end, a bamboo bar.

And for some reason a life-size cutout of a Corona girl/ lady bullfighter type person. Not very Polynesian, but so what?!:

It was all too much!

Inviting booths, decorated as thatched huts, beckoned.

I don’t know what it is, but I just love a booth!  Our group was seated right away and we nestled into our corner booth.  VIP, baby!

Then, we drank in the drinks.

Ah, the drinks.  I could spend the whole review discussing the various colors (blues, oranges, pinks!), adornments (umbrellas, flowers!), and fruits (pineapples, watermelons!) with and within which the drinks were served.  A drink such as:

To give you some perspective, this was basically a full-sized pineapple, carved out and filled to the brim with delicious alcohol.  Need I say more?  I wet my beak with several offerings, the Lun Wah Punch and the Zombie (below).

Both were a party in a cup, and soon my head was spinning with Polynesian joy.

The staff was friendly, extremely attentive and courteous, refilling our water glasses like clockwork (a must in my book!).

Oh, and there was also food ?  Soo extremely tasty.  For appetizers, we shared boneless spare ribs and scallion pancakes for the table.  Portion sizes were ginormous, and we had to stop ourselves in order to save some appetite for the main entrees.  For entrée, I had the Four Season Delight, portion sizes which were epic, so should I say I had about half of it (two seasons?).  Reader, sadly, I neglected to take pictures of the food (see above where my head was spinning with Polynesian joy).  But here is a link to the restaurant’s website, where you can check all the yummies out for yourself here: Lun Wah

Everyone agreed that fun décor, awesome drinks, and tasty food meant that we will be embarking on another Girls’ Night out here sometime very soon!
