Bizarre Basement Finds: Top 5 List

Bizarre Basement Finds: Top 5 List

The more houses you see, the more likely it is that you are going to see some weird stuff.  Strange layouts, crazy wallpaper, you name it.  And somehow the basement tends to be a home’s headquarters for harboring the odd, unusual, kooky, and sometimes downright creepy items in the home.

Here’s a fun list of some of the more memorable odd, unusual, kooky things I’ve seen in basements.

1. The “Lonesome Toilet”.

Everyone’s favorite.  Out in the open, fiercely proud, but not offering much in the way of privacy.  I guess you could argue for the convenience of this, if you’re hanging out in the basement and have no time to even open a door, you can get right to business. I guess?

2.  The Random Pencil Sharpener.

I’ve always wondered about this one, especially as I always find them secured to the staircase to unfinished basements, an entire level away from where someone might be breaking a pencil point.  At least they could locate it next to Lonesome Toilet, so that someone venturing down to sharpen their pencil might multi-task.

3.  Cozy Coupe fleet.

As a mom of two, I realize the folly of owning merely ONE Cozy Coupe.  Two kids= two Cozy Coupes. Three kids=three Cozy Coupes.  It makes sense.  However, one particular basement featured TEN Cozy Coupes.   Gearing up for Kiddie Armageddon by stocking an armada of Cozy Coupes that might transport a Kiddie Army, perhaps? Truly bizarre, slightly creepy.

4.  Donald Duck Memorabilia.

I’m not talking about a few items.  I mean to tell you this one homeowner literally had HUNDREDS of Donald Duck memorabilia, dozens of framed pictures, DD glassware, various and sundry DD home décor items. If you can call anything featuring Donald “décor” (I don’t think you can)

5.  Twig bird’s nest thingy a la “True Detective”.

If you’re a “True Detective” fan, you will appreciate the chills that ran down my spine when I spied this in one basement.  Nothing remotely kooky or charming. Pretty much straight up terrifying.
