I don’t know about you, but I’ve been looking forward to the very first Cranford Porchfest for months! Thanks to the tireless efforts of many folks, and presented by the Cranford Community Connection, it is *finally* here!

This is sure to be an absolutely fun-filled day and it looks like the weather gods will be smiling down upon Cranford tomorrow, too (current forecast for Saturday is Sunny with a high of 76 – spectacular!)

To recap, what is Porchfest?

Porchfests are annual music events held across the United States and in Canada on front porches. Started in Ithaca, New York in 2007, porchfest events bring local musicians and neighborhoods together to celebrate and create a sense of community.

Porchfest music festivals began as a means for neighbors and local community members to highlight their music on front porches. The concept was to find musicians and porches on which for them to play. The original event in Ithaca, New York, started with about 20 musicians but has since grown to over 180.

Bands, singers, and instrumentalists participate in the festival for no other reason than to showcase their talents and engage the community. Music is diverse and can range from country to pop, classical, reggae, blues, rock, jazz, Latino, R&B, and many others. Musicians voluntarily take to the “stage” on porches at their designated times and perform for the public.

So, what will Cranford’s Porchfest look like?

There will be eight homes each featuring three one-hour sets, from 2-5pm, and a Grand Finale downtown at the Eastman Clock Plaza at 5:30pm.

The homes were carefully selected to represent different neighborhoods of Cranford, with each home featuring a variety of musical styles:

Then at 5:30, there will be a Grand Finale at Eastman Clock Plaza Park, featuring Cranford’s own Alden Street!
